Current projects
The Friends are actively pursuing a number of projects including:
- Steering Group formed with local YMCA and other youth groups to fund restoration of BMX facilities in Hampden Park.
- Promoting debate to ensure that the former rifle range area, now vacant, is used to the best advantage of all park users, including the young.
- Ecology clubs working with local schools.
- Developing further our links with schools in the area so that the park is seen as a resource from which all may benefit. Click here for photos.

Recent successes
- Achievement of £50,000 LOTTERY funding from CommunitySpaces towards the ecological improvement of the Decoy Pond.
- Decoy Pond restoration work. Click here for a summary of the work;
- Hampden Park playground the first in Eastbourne to have a sandpit and a zip wire;
- Renovation of paths with grants achieved by the Friends, match funded by Eastbourne Borough Council;
- Finger Post Signs sponsored by TEVA UK;
- Entrance Signs sponsored by Veritek Global;
- 3000 Bluebells planted by local schoolchildren;
- New Crocus Beds started near the war memorial with 7000 bulbs donated by Eastbourne Sovereign Rotary Club, EBC, Hampden Park in Bloom, and the Friends;
- Devolved Ward Grants from Hampden Park and Ratton Councillors towards park projects.
