Who are we?

The Friends of the Hampden Park was formed in 2005 by local residents.  Our aim is ‘the preservation and enhancement of the quality of the parkland and open spaces of Hampden Park for the enjoyment and benefit of park users’.  Regular newsletters and meetings keep members informed of progress and achievements.

Encouraging improvement

The Friends work in close association with the Parks & Gardens department of Eastbourne Borough Council and their contractors to bring about improvements.  When possible we help by sourcing grants or sponsorship to enable work to be undertaken.

Ownership by involvement

We seek to encourage the local community, and especially the young people in the area, to participate in park projects.

Celebration!

In 2011 the Friends were able to raise £50,000 Grand Lottery grant which, added to the £60,000 allocated by Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet, enabled the Parks and Gardens team to contract and project manage a specialist ecology company to undertake major renovation and enhancement of the Decoy Pond, completed in June.
